back in zurich

So I have been in Zurich for two straight weeks, which is so unusual for me. Between working out of town and all my travels, I don't think that has happened since my first few weeks here. The last two weeks have been so great. I really took the time to hang out with some of my friends here, complete my furniture shopping, and of course do some more exploring.

After an uneventful week at work last week, a few co-workers and I decided to go to dinner Friday night. We had a delicious dinner at a Mexican restaurant (even though you don't get free chips and salsa here, which just seems wrong) and then continued on to Langstrasse ("Longstreet"), which is the main bar/club district. We really had a great time, evidenced by the amount of money I spent and the fact that I didn't get home until 5AM.

Saturday night I went to Mariana's house for a BBQ. Sunday, Daniela and I went on a self-guided walking tour of Zurich. I saw a few of the touristy things that I hadn't yet had a chance to see. We also found this cute cafe - CakeFriends.

This week was a little more eventful. I met up with my friend Alayna to catch up over drinks after work on Wednesday. Thursday I went to dinner with Mychele and John and their friends that were in town from Bermuda. We went to Zeughauskeller, which is typical Swiss German restaurant. The highlight here are the flaming beers.

Friday night I went for a glass of wine with Alayna and her work friends. It was really nice out so we sat outside and listened to a band playing. Saturday morning I woke up early and went grocery shopping. Only one major mishap at the grocery store: I bought what I thought was a sliced piece of cantelope. When I got home and tried to cut it up for breakfast I realized it was a sliced piece of pumpkin! I have never seen a sliced piece of pumpkin in a grocery in the US!

I then met my friend Jelena and we went on a massive furniture shopping spree. I was determined to buy patio furniture for my roof! After visiting multiple places that had sold out or put their patio furniture away for the season, we ended up back at IKEA and I found a set I loved that was on sale! It will be delivered Monday and I couldn't be happier to have all the furniture I need now!

Since it was so nice out this weekend, we met up with Daniela at the lake afterwards. We happened to pass buy a promotion event and got free manicures!

We hung out at the lake and watched the sun set while drinking wine and eating bread and cheese. It was so nice!! We finished the night with a movie, which is also different here because (a) the movie is shown in its original language (english thankfully) but has german and french subtitles and (b) there is an intermission (which is so convenient)!

I ended the weekend with a hike on Sunday (I'll post pictures later). It has been a great couple of weeks!
